Girl with dermal fillers

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Filler and Anti-Wrinkle Injections are two different medications and treat different indications.

Anti-Wrinkle Injections target muscle movements that create lines over time. The typical treatment areas are: forehead lines, frown lines, crow’s feet and lower face such as dimpling chin, corners of the mouth and for facial slimming.

Dermal Fillers are used to treat volume loss that is typically age-related and to create definition in facial features.

Many areas of Dermal Filler are: temples, under eyes, cheeks, smile lines, lips, jawline, chin and marionette lines.

  • Longevity of products can differ from person to person based on many intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Some of these include: medical conditions, medications, physical activity, metabolic rate, sun exposure, skincare routine, smoking and diet.

For Anti-Wrinkle Injections, the results are lasting typically from 3-5 months. Your longevity will also depend on dosing. So, for clients whom only wants (or who are only suitable for a decreased dosing) this can affect the duration.

For Dermal Filler, the results are usually 6-12 months (depending on product).

  • For Anti-Wrinkle Injections patients will typically start to see results within the first 3-6 dayswith the full effect at two weeks.

Dermal Filler has immediate results. However, as any injectable treatment it is common to have potential swelling, bruising etc. So, we say that for the full result is usually 2-4 weeks post treatment.

Over this period of time, Dermal Filler will also integrate with your tissue;this is what improves results further.

  • Cosmetic Injectable treatments are not meant to be noticeable. These treatments are designed to offer natural-looking results where you look refreshed, balanced and radiant as opposed to “done”.

Having said this, most commonly after Dermal Filler treatments it is common to experience mild to moderate swelling and potential bruising, but once this subsides your results are subtle and natural.

  • The aftercare of Anti-Wrinkle Injections and Dermal Filler are similar.

We recommend: to be upright for 4 hours after treatment, avoid strenuous exercise and no make-up for 24 hrs, no anti-inflammatories (including alcohol) for at least 24 hours after and no other facial treatments for 1-2 weeks after (depending on your treatment).

As Cosmetic Injectable Treatments are non-surgical, people are able to go about their daily activities such as work and socialising as per normal.

  • If you decide to stop your treatments, there is no harm. Your body naturally breaks down these products like other medications. Your results, over time will return to baseline. If and when you decide to begin your treatments again it is important to have a thorough consultation/assessment as your treatment requirements will likely have changed.

  • Everyone is different and there is no standard answer. The wonderful thing is that we are all unique individuals. This means that for cosmetic treatments this also applies, as all our anatomy, bone structure, muscle strength and skin quality are all different. In your consultation, we develop a tailored treatment plan based on your needs and goals. This avoids having a “cookie-cutter approach”, and ensures the best outcome for you.

  • For the most part, people describe Anti-Wrinkle Injections as “small pinches”. The treatment is a quick process and with no residual pain after.

Dermal Filler is described as a “pressure” feeling. There is also a numbing agent within Dermal Filler. A topical numbing cream is often utilised for Filler treatments.

Luckily Cosmetic Injectable treatments have minimal discomfort, and for those with lower pain tolerances there are options such as ice packs and extra numbing if required.

  • Unfortunately, no. We do not want you or your baby at any risk. There is no evidence that supports Cosmetic Injectable treatment safety while pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to fall pregnant.

  • At least 4 weeks’ minimum before an event. This gives time for full effect of the treatment, for any potential swelling/bruising to resolve and if there are any areas that require additional attention, then there is time for this.

  • Different parts of the face have different anatomy, therefore will require different Dermal Filler and dosing for optimal results and safety.

For instance; lips are a delicate area of the face that requires a product that is soft and moveable for natural results. Whereas the cheeks will typically require a more robust product to replicate bone structure to give more volume and definition.
